LSU baseball was swept by Georgia, marking their fourth sweep in five weeks. With a 10-17 conference record, LSU's chances for the NCAA Tournament are dwindling.
LSU baseball was swept by Georgia over the weekend. It was the fourth time LSU was swept this year -- all four occasions coming in the last five weeks.
LSU swept South Carolina last week, but that was LSU's only reprieve from a brutal stretch. LSU has not been up to the task when facing quality SEC baseball teams in 2026.
LSU needed quality wins to boost its resume for the NCAA Tournament. Now, LSU's postseason hopes are fading away. It's hard to see a path given LSU's 10-17 record in conference play and poor RPI ranking. LSU would have to sweep Florida and then win a game or two in the SEC tournament. Neither seems likely for this LSU team.
LSU was competitive vs. Georgia on Friday, but the Tigers went down without a fight in games two and three. Here are five takeaways from LSU's series in Athens.
This isn't necessarily a new takeaway, because we've seen this pitching staff struggle vs. good lineups all year. But the three days in Athens were LSU's worst stretch yet. LSU allowed 36 runs in three games, with Georgia scoring 10+ runs in every game.
William Schmidt was fine on Friday night, but only pitched four innings. Schmidt left the game with a lead. Then LSU's bullpen cratered. On Saturday and Sunday, there wasn't much to like at all.
Georgia jumped on Marcos Paz early on Saturday. On Sunday, Casan Evans returned to the mound and was sharp in the first inning, but could not finish the second. Zac Cowan entered in relief and had his worst outing of SEC play.
Entering the series, we said LSU needed to prevent these games from becoming shootouts because the Tigers don't have the firepower to go shot-for-shot vs. UGA. The series became a shootout, and LSU could not keep up.
LSU homered three times on Friday night, but only homered once the rest of the series. LSU only hit three doubles in the entire series.

LSU wasn't in a good spot entering the weekend, but the Tigers are in an even worse one now. LSU leaves Athens with an RPI of No. 57, far from where LSU needs to be to earn an at-large bid. LSU needs that number to be in the top 40s, at least.
LSU was in position to win Game 1, leading 7-3 midway through the contest. The LSU bats were hitting and William Schmidt was keeping the game under control. But Georgia stormed back. Blown leads have hurt LSU a few times this year -- think back to LSU losing winnable games at Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. LSU's inability to finish cost the Tigers again on Friday.
If LSU had won game one, we're talking about this series in a completely different light. LSU wouldn't need to sweep Florida and the Tigers would have another quadrant one win.
