Miami (FL) offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa is widely considered the top offensive line prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft and has been projected as a first-round selection. Now, one small detail has emerged regarding potential injury concerns that could impact his career, getting off on the right foot – but it appears it won't get in the way of the All-American lineman hearing his name called early on Day 1 of the draft.
It was reported on Monday that Mauigoa has a herniated disc in his back, and some teams believe the standout offensive lineman will require surgery at one point or another. But it also does not seem to be affecting his draft stock yet, as he is still projected as first offensive lineman to be selected at the event.
Mauigoa reportedly returned to Indianapolis for a medical recheck two weeks ago ahead of the draft. Sources indicate that his injury is currently asymptomatic and not a significant issue, but teams are aware of the concerns. They also have an understanding that if the situation worsens at all, he will need surgery and will be sidelined for approximately three months – and that if the injury flares up in training camp, it could derail his rookie season in its entirety.
While teams don't yet seem to be losing interest in Mauigoa as a top pick, this does throw a potential wrench in plans – especially for franchises looking to draft him to fill a potential starting role as a rookie. Mauigoa is highly touted after earning All-ACC honors and being named a consensus All-American for helping anchor Miami (FL)'s offensive line during their run to the College Football Playoff Championship game last season.
