No. 1 Frankfort secured a 12-1 victory over No. 4 Allegany, driven by a strong performance from pitcher Carson Durst. The team showcased a balanced offense, scoring in multiple innings and capitalizing on walks.
CUMBERLAND — No. 1 Frankfort combined a balanced offense with a strong start from Carson Durst, leading to a 12-1, six-inning win at No. 4 Allegany on Monday.
"Carson pitched great, offensively I thought we did a really nice job," Frankfort manager Matt Miller said. "We hit the ball when it was in the zone. We took advantage of some walks. We were patient at the plate, but aggressive, which is what we're supposed to be, attacking strikes. I thought we did a pretty good job of that today."
Durst tossed six innings of one-run ball on three hits and four walks with nine strikeouts.
"Got ahead with his fastball," Miller said. "When he got ahead with his fastball, his changeup was really good. Those were his main two pitches, usually he's fastball and curveball. Today, it was fastball and changeup. Did a really nice job keeping them off balance. Really good job hitting his spots when he was ahead in the count."
The Falcons (12-6) scored three runs in the second inning, four in the third and five in the fifth.
Kohen Madden opened the scoring with an RBI double in the bottom of the first for the Campers (9-6).
"Obviously, not our best day," Alco skipper Jon Irons said. "We keep having these self-inflicted wounds that are hard to overcome. You play a good team like Frankfort, you can't give them too much. And we gave them too much today, plays in the field that should be made, free bases with walks."
In the top of the second, Frankfort scored on a Braeden Laffey single and two-run double from Lanson Orndorf (Charleston commit).
The Falcons added four runs in the top of the third on a Carson Durst two-run knock, a sacrifice fly and wild pitch.
"You let them get runners on early, they've got good hitters in that lineup," Irons said. "They're gonna make you pay eventually. You can only wiggle out of it so many times before they're gonna make you pay."
In the sixth, Frankfort scored on two sacrifice flies, a Jaxon Hare single and Cole Shanholtz's two-RBI triple.
Hare and Durst each had a pair of hits for the Falcons.
Durst and Shanholtz drove in three runs apiece while Orndorf added a pair.
"Shanholtz has been really hot the last couple games," Miller said. "He's been hitting the ball really hard. Braeden had a big hit, Carson had a big two-run single. Our whole lineup can hit it, we just gotta get going at the right time. So far, so good."
Madden, Sebastian Stewart and Max Fradiska each had a hit for Alco.
"I feel like there were times where we were offering at things that we didn't want to," Irons said. "Then there were certain times where certain guys were turning down good pitches when they should've attacked early in the count and didn't. Then we put ourselves in bad spots count wise, and the kid (Durst) threw well."
Stewart took the loss, allowing three earned runs across 2 2/3 innings.
Frankfort won the game against Allegany with a final score of 12-1.
Carson Durst was the standout pitcher for Frankfort, throwing six innings and allowing only one run.

"We've had some solid baseball games over the past few weeks where I thought we played pretty complete, solid baseball games," Irons said. "But our problem is it comes back to hurt us at the worst times. That's something that's a little difficult to practice, but it's something we just talked about. We're gonna try to get it cleaned up."
The Trojans (11-6) upset Frankfort, 4-3, on Apr. 1.
"We weren't playing our best baseball," Miller said. "They got us, they beat us that night, they were the better team that night. We wanna go get them again on Wednesday."
