Franz Wagner is questionable for Game 5 against the Detroit Pistons due to a right calf strain. He exited Game 4 with soreness and underwent an MRI to assess the injury.
Franz Wagner is questionable to play for the Orlando Magic in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series against the Detroit Pistons, the team announced on Tuesday.
Wagner exited the Magic's Game 4 victory over the Pistons on Monday late in the third quarter because of right calf soreness. He wouldn't return to the contest, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in 24 minutes, 11 seconds.
The Magic said the 24-year-old forward underwent an MRI on Tuesday, which revealed a right calf strain. His playing status for Wednesday in Detroit (7 p.m. EDT, Amazon Prime) is uncertain and will depend on how he responds to treatment.
Wagner, who was limited to 34 regular-season appearances because of a left high ankle sprain, experienced discomfort and asked out of the game. He watched his team take a commanding 3-1 series lead from the bench after he was briefly evaluated in the locker room.
The 6-foot-10 Wagner is averaging 16.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals while shooting 33.3% from 3-point range in four games against the Pistons. He has scored in double figures in each game, highlighted by a pair of 19-point performances.
The Magic are looking to win their first playoff series in 16 years and to become just the seventh eighth seed in history to upset a No. 1 seed. Asked in the locker room on Monday if he anticipates being able to play in Game 5, Wagner said, "I hope so."
