Fraser Minten Making an Early Impact at World Championships

One of the eight Boston Bruins at the IIHF World Championships is off to a strong start.

Fraser Minten, the 21-year-old from Vancouver, BC, has three points in his first two games with Team Canada. He was named Canada’s best player after their 5-3 win over Sweden on Friday. He recorded two assists and finished with a plus-two rating.

Then he followed that performance with a goal on Saturday in Canada’s 6-0 win over Italy.

Minten has skated on the fourth line, playing between Porter Martone and Connor Brown in Canada’s first two games. Martone has three assists, and Brown has a goal and an assist so far.

In Canada’s first two games, Minten has only taken one shot, recorded 21:47 of ice time, and is tied for the team lead with a plus-three rating.

The World Championships provide Minten, along with all of the Bruins in Switzerland, with the opportunity to further their development and continue to get game reps in after the season.

Minten is coming off a full 82-game season where he posted 35 points (17-18–35). He was voted the Seventh Player, given to the team’s unsung hero. Marco Sturm has played him on the third line, but gave him occasional minutes on the top line as well.

He also played in all six Bruins’ playoff games, but he did not record a point.

The Bruins’ front office mentioned the need for more speed and skill this summer, and Minten remains one of the organization’s exciting young forwards. The 21-year-old is coming off a successful first full NHL season, and early success at the World Championships is another encouraging sign for Bruins fans.
