The Boston Bruins acquired centerman Fraser Minten from the Toronto Maple Leafs as part of the return for Brandon Carlo.
A big part of the return for Boston was a first-round pick, which was supposed to be in 2026, but after the Maple Leafs won the draft lottery, itâs likely the pick will now be in 2028. Although Boston might not get the first-round pick for a couple of years, the trade already looks favorable for the Bruins because of Minten's play.
At the time of the trade, Minten was expected to be a bottom-six forward who could play a 200-foot game. However, in his first full NHL season, he exceeded expectations, and Bruins general manager Don Sweeney was thoroughly impressed.
âFraser spent some time, 50 games in, he spent some time up in that (first-line center) spot, which is not an easy spot to play in,â Sweeney said on Wednesday. âYouâre seeing a hell of a lot harder matchups, youâre playing with a star player, and youâre trying to navigate a ton â he did a good job. People originally described Fraser as one player â why put a ceiling there? Weâll see what he is going to do.â
The Bruins front office praised Fraser Minten's performance during his rookie year, indicating strong potential for the future.

Given the positive reviews from the front office, Fraser Minten is expected to play a significant role in the Bruins' future success.

Minten skated in all 82 regular-season games for Boston and made an impact on both ends of the ice. Bruins President Cam Neely was also impressed with Minten and expects him to be a key part of the team for years to come.
âFraser said to me at the exit meeting, he was like, âWow, what a difference playoff hockey is compared to regular-season hockey.â That experience for him was invaluable,â Neely said. âHe realizes how things close quicker; thereâs not as much time to do anything.
âOnce he figures that out, like every player does over time, or most players do over time, I think heâs going to grow and continue to grow. We want to give these guys every opportunity to take a job thatâs staring at them.â
Minten recorded 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points in 82 games.
