Fresh Faces On The Forty: New Texas freshman guard Bo Ogden

Another edition of “Fresh Faces on the Forty,” another top 5 player in the state of Texas. This time, it’s Mr. Basketball in Texas this season, Bo Ogden. The former Westlake High School star joins the Longhorns as one of the best shooters in the 2026 recruiting class. Ogden put together a special career for the Chaps, leading them to the state title game last season, earning District 26-6A Most Valuable Player.

2025 Stats: 22 PPG, 7.5 REB, 40% 3-PT, 84% FT

Ogden, like Austin Goosby, comes to Texas with Longhorn ties. His father Chris Ogden was Texas Mr. Basketball himself in 1999, was a team captain and the winningest player in Texas basketball history when his career finished. He coached at Texas from 2008-2015 and returned to the Forty Acres in 2021 as the Longhorns general manager. Longhorn fans hope his son can continue the impressive Ogden family history in Austin.

There are many reasons to be excited about what Bo Ogden brings to the table but his shooting ability takes the cake. On the 3SSB circuit, an Adidas youth basketball league, he shot 46% from three-point range. On top of that, he attempted 7 three a game, hit 49% of his catch-and-shoot threes and 58% when he was unguarded. Those are truly world-class numbers from beyond the arc. That is an ability Texas basketball hasn’t consistently had as of late.

The 6’5”, 195-pound Austin native, like Goosby, will see the court immediately. His ability to change the game in an instant is impossible to keep on the sideline. I expect Ogden will start as a true 3-and-D guy his freshman year but has the chance to become a true complete player over time. If he can continue the Ogden family success, Texas basketball has bright days ahead.
