Oyster River's Jefferey Keyes had three goals and seven assists in Friday's 20-0 win over Alvirne in a Division II boys lacrosse game.
"(Keyes) works hard, loves lacrosse and has really developed into a great attack," Oyster River first-year head coach Brendan McKenna said. "He knows how to push from behind, and then find the guys in front of the net so he can get those goals and assists."
Keyes, who led Oyster River in points last year as a sophomore, scored two quick goals against Alvirne, opening up opportunities for others.
"As soon as (Alvirne) saw him running toward the net, everybody crashed down," McKenna said. "And then he has the ability to keep his eyes up and make a good pass to someone in front of the net. We kind of start everything through him, and he can dictate which side we're pushing to try to get the ball moving."
Keyes now has 11 goals and 17 assists in Oyster River's first five games of the season.
"When you're playing X, you have the vision of the whole field, and as soon as he understood that (last year when he became a starter) he really racked up the assists," McKenna said. "He's really learned how to play that position exactly how it should be played."
