WELLS, Maine - York High School senior Piper Catanese entered the Class B South softball season needing three hits to reach the milestone of 100 for her career.
The shortstop got one hit in York's season-opening win over Greely on Monday, April 27.

Catanese, now needing two hits, lined out to shortstop in her first at-bat in York's game at Wells on Friday, May 1.
Catanese, who spent her first two years at Marshwood High School before transferring to York ahead of her junior season, singled to center in her second at-bat, and then singled to left center in the fourth inning, reaching the milestone.
York head coach Kevin Giannino immediately called timeout and the Wildcats rushed out of the visitor's dugout along the first base side and ran to celebrate with Catanese at first base.
"It was a nice little moment for Piper, she deserved it," Giannino said. "I think she was a little bit surprised when she turned around and had the whole team standing in front of her at first base to congratulate her. Reaching 100 hits in the second game of your senior year is quite a pretty significant accomplishment."

Giannino said Catanese made "a tremendous contribution right out of the gate" since joining York.
York beat Wells, 17-0 and improved to 2-0 on the season, and Catanese was named the Seacoast Standout Athlete of the Day.
