FSU baseball secured an 11-1 run-rule victory over Miami, clinching the series. This marks the third consecutive rivalry series win for the Seminoles against the Hurricanes.
FSU baseball clinches series against Miami with run-rule victory
Lightning struck twice.
A day after a bases-loaded walk-off walk secured a comeback win, Florida State baseball walked off Miami, once again with the bases loaded, in a different fashion to clinch a third consecutive rivalry series over the Hurricanes.
With the bases juiced in the eighth, Gabe Fraser hit an RBI single to right field that secured an 11-1 run-rule victory over Miami for the Seminoles.
While No. 11 FSU's (38-15, 19-10 ACC) offense left things late in the 7-6 win over Miami (35-17, 15-14 ACC), the Seminoles jumped on the Hurricanes with six runs in the first four innings and were anchored by strong pitching to win on Friday, May 15, at Dick Howser Stadium.
Trey Beard started and threw six solid innings with eight strikeouts, four hits allowed, and one run. The lone blemish came off the bat of Max Galvin, who hit a solo home run in the first inning. Brodie Purcell replaced him in the seventh, and he struck out the side to start his relief appearance.
Purcell finished the game with five strikeouts and one hit allowed in two innings of work.
After Galvin's home run in the first inning put Miami up, the Seminoles nearly responded with a two-run home run from Hunter Carns, but Galvin leaped up the left field wall to steal a home run off Carns. Fortunes changed in the second inning, as FSU scored three.
Fraser was hit by the first pitch he saw in his at-bat, and the Seminoles made Miami pay with an Eli Putnam single moving Fraser to third base, and he later scored on a sacrifice fly from Carter McCulley. Cal Fisher and Brayden Dowd followed with RBI singles to go ahead 3-1. Dowd finished the game 2-for-3 with three walks.
After getting robbed in the first inning, Carns left no doubt in the third, leading off with a solo home run, his sixth of the season. He finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. A bases-loaded John Stuetzer walk scored the second run of the inning before a fielding error in the fourth scored another run for the Seminoles to go ahead, 6-1.
FSU baseball clinched the series against Miami with an 11-1 run-rule victory, highlighted by Gabe Fraser's RBI single in the eighth inning.
The final score of the game was 11-1 in favor of Florida State.

Both Beard and Purcell kept the Hurricanes quiet with the five-run cushion to secure the victory. FSU secured the run rule in the eighth. Fisher hit a two-RBI single, quickly followed by a two-RBI single from Brody DeLamielleure, which extended his hit streak to sixteen games, before Fraser ended the game with his single.
The Seminoles have now won five of the last six series against the Hurricanes, and Miami has not won a series in Tallahassee since the 2016 season.
Despite the fireworks on the scoreboard, the Seminoles failed to cash in on multiple scoring opportunities, leaving 14 runners on base in the game. FSU left the bases loaded in three consecutive innings, the third to the fifth innings, and went 8-for-27 with runners in scoring position.
The Seminoles earned a season high of 13 walks. FSU goes for the sweep on Saturday, May 16, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
