The Florida State softball team has not made it to the Women's College World Series since 2023, a drought they are trying to end this season. The first step in their journey to Oklahoma City is this weekend, when they host the Tallahassee Regional as the No. 9 overall seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament.
The Seminoles are set to compete with the No. 2-seeded UCF Knights, No. 3-seeded Jacksonville State Gamecocks, and No. 4-seeded Stetson Hatters. Softball America believes it is one of the easier regionals in the country, and now they have been picked to win the regional by Molly Keshin and Stewert Mandel of The Athletic.
The two don't just think they will win the regional, they are also projecting them to beat the UCLA Bruins in the Super Regional round and punch their ticket to the WCWS. While FSU beat UCLA 11-7 earlier this season, this series would take place on UCLA's campus, where they are 18-2 this season, and FSU is 13-4 on the road.
While FSU has a young team, they have one of the best players in the country in Isa Torres and several other veterans that The Athletic mentioned as reasons for their success this season.
Florida State coach Lonni Alameda led a freshman-heavy squad to both the ACC regular-season and conference tourney titles. It helped to have the potential National Player of the Year, shortstop Isa Torres, who ranks third nationally with a .542 average and 16 home runs, and committed no errors all season. Jaysoni Beachum is a .404 hitter. The Noles also boast ACC Pitcher of the Year Jazzy Francik (1.75 ERA) and a solid No. 2 in Ashtyn Danley (2.04), whoâs also FSUâs fourth-leading hitter.
FSU will return to action on Friday when they play Stetson in the first game of the regional round. The game is set to start at noon ET and will be on ESPNU.
