For the 152nd Run for the Roses, Renegade emerges as the odds-on favorite after a series of dominant prep race performances. The colt will break from the No. 1 post position, a spot that provides a quick start but poses significant challenges with no horse winning from that post since 1986.
The Derby field has already faced two notable withdrawals. Silent Tactic, a potential dark horse from the No. 13 post, was scratched because of a foot bruise. Meanwhile, Fulleffort, trained by Brad Cox and set to start from the outside No. 20 gate, has been sidelined due to a chip in his left hind ankle. Fulleffort will undergo surgery but is expected to make a full recovery and return to racing later this year.
