The White Sox are back in the saddle this afternoon with a rubber match on tap against the Angels. The South Siders get a shot to prove this little hot streak isn’t just a mirage. They’ve won their last two series, and a victory today would make it three straight.
They also have six wins over their last 10, and sit a half-game back in the AL Central. The bats are officially alive, the arms have settled in, and there’s been just enough clutch to keep them competitive. Now it’s about actually capturing yet another series, and continuing to ride this momentum.
Noah Schultz, the rookie southpaw, gets the nod. He’s 2-1 and packing a 2.53 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP in four outings, along with 20 Ks and two quality starts. That’s not a bad way to start your big league career. The next step is to cut down on the free passes and start missing more bats. If Schultz finds more of the zone, buckle up.
The Angels roll out their own rookie, Walbert Ureña, who is still winless at 0-3. The ERA (3.86) is fine, but the 1.84 WHIP is a neon sign: traffic jams galore. There’s a real chance for the Good Guys to pile up baserunners and do some early damage.
Here’s how Will Venable sends them out today:
