Garret Anderson, former MLB outfielder, died from acute necrotizing pancreatitis, as confirmed by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner’s Office. He was 53 years old and played primarily for the Los Angeles Angels.

The Orange County Sheriff Coroner’s Office said Anderson passed away last week due to acute necrotizing pancreatitis, according to the report.
Anderson, a fourth-round draft pick by the Angels in 1990, played the first 15 of his 17 major league seasons in Anaheim. He set numerous franchise records along the way, and helped the team win its first and only championship in 2002.
Anderson is still the team’s all-time leader in games (2,013), at-bats (7,989), hits (2,368), total bases (3,743), extra-base hits (796), doubles (489) and RBI (1,292). He also ranks second in runs scored (1,024) and third in home runs (287).

Anderson retired with a career .293 batting average, 287 home runs, and 1,365 RBIs. He made three American League All-Star teams (2002, 2003, 2005) and won two Silver Slugger Awards.
In the years after he retired, Anderson became familiar to a new generation of Angels fans as a pre- and post-game analyst on the team’s regional sports network. He was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in August 2016.
The Angels are wearing a memorial patch on their jersey sleeves honoring Anderson the remainder of this season.

“Garret Anderson was a huge part of Angels history and inspired so many of us who wear this uniform,” Angels star Mike Trout wrote on his X account April 18. “Keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers 🙏🏻”
Anderson suffered a medical emergency at his Newport Beach, Calif. home on April 16, according to the Post.
“The Angels Organization is mourning the loss of one of our franchise’s most beloved icons, Garret Anderson,” Angels owner Arte Moreno said in a statement. “Garret was a cornerstone of our organization throughout his 15 seasons and his stoic presence in the outfield and our clubhouse elevated the Angels into an era of continued success, highlighted by the 2002 World Series Championship.
