Garrett Crochet Red Flag After Worst Start In Red Sox Uniform

It wasn't Garrett Crochet's night on Monday, to say the least.

Crochet got the ball for the Boston Red Sox against the Minnesota Twins, hoping to give the club its first three-game winning streak of the season. Instead, Crochet could not make it through the second inning.

Crochet pitched 1 2/3 innings against the Twins and allowed 10 earned runs, but 11 runs total. He allowed nine base hits, including two home runs, and threw just 55 pitches. That's certainly not what you expect to see from the club's ace. Every pitcher is going to have a bad game at some point. Unfortunately, Crochet's came on Monday night.

His start against the Twins actually was his worst one in a Boston jersey so far. Last year, Crochet made 32 starts for the Red Sox and had a 2.59 ERA in a league-leading 205 1/3 innings pitched. Crochet's worst start of the 2025 season came on Sept. 2 against the Cleveland Guardians. That day, Crochet allowed seven earned runs across six innings of work. The home run ball was a problem that day, like Monday. He allowed four homers against Cleveland en route to the seven earned runs. There were a couple of outings in which he allowed five earned runs, but nothing like Monday.

It's certainly not what you expect to see from Crochet. At the end of the day, it won't likely mean too much in the long term. But over the next week or so, it will be worth watching the big lefty closely to see how he bounces back.
