Phil Mickelson has been chasing a US Open win throughout his entire career.
The US Open is the only major championship that has eluded Mickelson during his long and illustrious career.
And now Gary Player has passed comment on whether he believes the LIV Golf star still has a chance to get over the line and win his national championship.

Without a US Open trophy, Mickelson hasn’t been able to join the most exclusive club in the game by completing the career Grand Slam.
Of course, Gary Player is one of only six men in that club.
Interestingly, Mickelson is not even in the field for the US Open this year at Shinnecock Hills – the venue for one of his six runner-up finishes at America’s national championship.
Mickelson has also not entered into qualifying, so it seems like the 55-year-old won’t be playing at the US Open for only the second time since 1993.

“Phil Mickelson, no, no, he can’t do that now,“ Player replied.
*“*Well, when I say you can’t. I’ll give odds that he can’t.
*“*I mean, he’s been a wonderful golfer.
“Wonderful golfer, but at his age now, it would take a miracle. But miracles happen.“
Player is right; it would take a miracle for Mickelson to win a US Open but if anyone can do it, the six-time major champion can.
Most people will admit that Mickelson’s chances of winning a US Open have gone.
That said, he is still the oldest man to ever win a major championship in the history of the game.
Mickelson won the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island in 2021 after staring down Brooks Koepka in the final group on Sunday.
The big problem for Phil Mickelson right now is that he is not exempt to play in the US Open.
So he will have to perform well on LIV Golf over the next year or so, and in the other major championships, in order to even get close to qualifying for the US Open.
At 55, competing with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Cam Young for four rounds at tough golf courses will be nigh on impossible for Mickelson.
Phil Mickelson will almost certainly retire without a US Open win to his name, and that’s a huge shame given what he has done for the game throughout the years.
