Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby earned his fifth win (5-2) of the season on Monday night as the M's beat the Houston Astros 3-1 at Daikin Park.
The Mariners are now 20-22 on the season, and they've won all five games against Houston. Dating back to last season, Seattle has won its last eight contests against their division rivals.
Kirby allowed just one run on seven hits in the win, walking two while striking out seven. His 5-2 record is now accompanied by a 2.84 ERA.
The win was the 50th win of his career, which makes him just the 12th pitcher in franchise history to hit that number.

A first-round pick of the Mariners out of Elon (2019), Kirby made his major league debut in 2022. Lifetime, he's 50-36 with a 3.52 ERA, and he earned an All-Star appearance in 2023. One of the best control pitchers in the sport, he led baseball in K/BB ratio in both 2023 and 2024.
He was an integral part of M's teams that made the playoffs in both 2022 and 2025 and his 2.84 ERA right now is on track to be the best of his career.

The Mariners and Astros will play game two of a four-game series on Tuesday at 5:10 p.m. PT. Bryan Woo (2-2, 4.02 ERA) will be on the mound against Tatsuya Imai (1-0, 7.27 ERA). Imai is coming back from a stint on the injured list.
The Mariners beat him earlier this season in Seattle.
