The move is not shocking since the SEC expanded to a nine-game conference season starting in 2026, but it is still disappointing for college football fans. The ACC also recently expanded its conference slate.
Georgia and Florida State were scheduled to play against each other in both 2027 and 2028. Now, the schools are working toward a neutral site matchup.
"As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028," Florida State athletics director Michael Alford said. "We are now discussing playing a future neutral-site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward."

Georgia and Florida State last met on the field in the 2023 Orange Bowl, which was a controversial game for many reasons. Florida State had tons of players opt of the contest after the Seminoles won the ACC and went undefeated, but the College Football Playoff committee put Alabama in the four-team playoff over Florida State and Georgia. The won the Orange Bowl in a historic 63-3 win.
