Georgia football loses out on in-state 4-star CB to ACC school

The Georgia Bulldogs have lost a significant number of secondary recruits from their class of 2027. They missed out on another big one. Four-star cornerback Chase Johnson committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Bulldogs, according to Hayes Fawcett. He chose Virginia Tech over Georgia, Florida State, and Louisville.

Johnson stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 150 pounds. He is an in-state cornerback from Emanuel County Institute in Swainsboro, Georgia. He is the No. 37 corner and No. 366 overall recruit in the class of 2027.

Johnson is one of the major additions to Hokies head coach James Franklin's first full recruiting class. Franklin has amassed the No. 17 recruiting class in the nation so far.

"It feels great. I just felt like it was the team I fit in best with, especially with how I fit into their defensive backfield," Johnson told 247Sports about his commitment to Virginia Tech.

"I feel like we do the same thing there as we do here. I could play nickel or corner. Punt returner as well."

Georgia, meanwhile, has just the No. 31 recruiting class in the nation, according to 247Sports. That's after two blue-chip corners flipped to other schools. Five-star corner Donte Wright flipped to Miami, while four-star corner Jerry Outhouse went to .
