Georgia football wrapped up spring practices looking stacked at tight end.
The Bulldogs took a big step for their future at the position on Thursday when 5-star 2027 tight end Jaxon Dollar announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Dollar plays for East Lincoln High in Dallas, N.C., outside of Charlotte.
He picked the Bulldogs over Notre Dame and Miami in an announcement on CBS Sports HQ.
“Physcially, he’s kind of a freak,” East Lincoln coach David Lubowicz told the Athens Banner-Herald. “He’s really explosive. He’s an explosive athlete that has really soft hands and does a good job on contested balls. I don’t know if I’ve ever not seen him catch a 50-50 ball.”
Dollar grew up around the game with two older brothers who like him played basketball and football at the school.
“He understands what he needs to do and when he needs to do it,” Lubowicz said. “He gets situational basketball and he gets situational football.”
Dollar is rated the nation’s No. 2 tight end and No. 33 overall prospect by the 247Sports Composite.
He’s the third five-star prospect in the class, joining running back Kemon Spell and cornerback Donte Wright.
Dollar took a big jump physically and mentally from eighth grade to 10th grade.
“We knew he was going to be a good athlete, we were just wondering when he was going to be a good athlete,” Lubowicz said. "
Dollar has been used in-line, as an H-back, in the slot and in trips formations.
“We try to get matchups for him,” Lubowicz said.
Dollar had 54 catches for 1,190 yards and 20 touchdowns last season.
Dollar looked at how schools used their tight ends, who he would be developed and their tight end production.
