German football body considering future World Cup bid

The German Football Federation (DFB) is considering a bid to host the men's World Cup in the future.

"As (president) Bernd Neuendorf said last November, Germany would provide the necessary infrastructure and the DFB would bring the appropriate organizational experience. That is why we are considering a World Cup bid insofar as future options are being examined and discussed," a DFB spokesman told dpa on Friday.

The federation noted that world governing body FIFA has currently no specific bidding process underway.

Neuendorf told the German Bundestag, the lower house of parliament, last November that, when it comes to the men's World Cup, he could "in principle imagine that we might address this issue in the future and examine under what conditions such a bid would even be feasible."

Germany has hosted the World Cup in 1974 and 2006. Most recently, they held the men's Euro 2024 and will host the women's Euro 2029.

The next World Cup is in June-July in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Morocco, Portugal and Spain will be the hosts in 2030, while Saudi Arabia will welcome the tournament in 2034.
