Giant step taken towards completing Liverpool transfer

Liverpool have taken a giant step towards completing another transfer. This one might be in the bag.

Denzel Dumfries could yet be a Liverpool player. The Reds tried to sign the Dutchman back in January, albeit on loan.

Inter rejected that approach and honestly, it never made much sense. Dumfries had been injured for months - surely not who you need to step in during an injury crisis.

But attention always moved towards the summer. Dumfries will have a €25m release clause in his contract and Liverpool are consistently linked with triggering it.

That's a bargain price for a player this good and especially one who plays internationally with several Reds. The only question was whether Inter would make Dumfries a massive contract offer that removes the clause.

It's been reported in several places that they intended to do that - but now it seems they have a different idea. TuttoMercatoWeb claims they've now found the player they want to replace Dumfries: Atalanta's Marco Palestra.

They'll only sign him if they get money from Dumfries' sale, suggesting they've moved on from the idea of spending a lot of money to keep their player. There's no desperation for him to stay anymore - and that means a step towards a transfer.

Liverpool were interested in January and Conor Bradley's injury likely forces them to consider right-sided players this summer. Dumfries will almost certainly be high on that list.
