The San Francisco Giants placed outfielders Harrison Bader and Jared Oliva on the 10-day injured list due to a hamstring strain and a hamate fracture, respectively. In response, the team recalled Will Brennan and Drew Gilbert from Triple-A to fill the roster gaps.
The San Francisco Giants were dealt an early-season setback this week, placing outfielders Harrison Bader and Jared Oliva on the 10-day injured list as the club continues to navigate roster challenges just weeks into the season.
Bader, who is dealing with a hamstring strain, had his placement retroactively dated, while Oliva suffered a hamate fracture—an injury that often requires a longer recovery window. In response, the Giants recalled outfielders Will Brennan and Drew Gilbert from Triple-A to reinforce their depth.
For Bader, the injury comes at a difficult time. The veteran center fielder, signed in the offseason to bolster both defense and lineup production, has struggled to find his rhythm at the plate.
Through his first stretch of games, he has yet to establish consistency, with swing decisions and contact issues contributing to a slow start. His aggressiveness early in counts has frequently put him in unfavorable situations, limiting his ability to generate offense.
Despite those struggles, Bader’s defensive presence remains valuable, and the Giants will hope a brief stint on the injured list allows him to reset both physically and mentally.
#SFGiants Roster Moves:
• OF Jared Oliva placed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist hamate fracture
• OF Harrison Bader placed on the 10-day injured list (retro to April 12) with a left hamstring strain
• OF Will Brennan (#7) recalled from Triple-A Sacramento

Oliva’s absence, however, could be more prolonged. The 30-year-old had carved out a role as a speed-driven contributor off the bench, offering value as a pinch-runner and late-inning defensive option.
Hamate injuries are notoriously tricky, often sidelining hitters for several weeks due to the impact on grip strength and swing mechanics. While recovery timelines vary, Oliva is expected to miss significant time, potentially extending into late spring.
With both players sidelined, the Giants will lean on Brennan and Gilbert to stabilize the outfield mix. Gilbert, in particular, brings versatility with experience across all three outfield spots, while Brennan offers additional depth and defensive availability.
As the season continues, San Francisco’s ability to adapt will be tested, with early injuries already forcing the club to tap into its organizational depth.
