The New York Giants traded Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals, and the move has led them to reportedly take a potential New England Patriots trade target off the market.
Kayvon Thibodeaux is set to play on a fifth-year option next season, but between Brian Burnes and Abdul Carter, he may be the odd man out. The former fifth overall pick has had a solid career so far, but could use a change of scenery. However, according to Ian Rapoport, the Giants are not looking to move him after trading away Dexter Lawrence.
The Giants, who had gotten trade calls centered around edge Kayvon Thibodeaux for the last few months, are now considered less likely to trade him following the blockbuster deal sending Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals, sources say," Rapoport wrote on Monday. "No one is ruling anything out. But unlikely."
The specific reasons for trading Dexter Lawrence have not been detailed, but it has influenced the decision to keep Kayvon Thibodeaux off the market.
Kayvon Thibodeaux's fifth-year option allows him to play another season with the Giants, but it also raises questions about his long-term role with the team.
The New England Patriots were reportedly a potential trade target for Kayvon Thibodeaux before the Giants decided to keep him.

The Patriots had just 35 sacks in the regular season last year. They lost K'Lavon Chaisson, but brought in Dre'Mont Jones. The pass rush is in a similar spot to last season, so the Patriots could have used a player like Thibodeaux to improve the group.
The Patriots can still add to the pass rush, but may have to do so through the NFL Draft now. The trade market does not really have an elite player seemingly available. The draft could land the Patriots a young pass rusher who can make an immediate impact.
