The slumping San Francisco Giants will be looking to avoid the sweep this afternoon as they face the Cincinnati Reds in the series finale at Great American Ballpark.
Landen Roupp has been lights out on the road, and my Giants vs. Reds predictions and MLB picks expect him to help San Fran grab a victory here.
The San Francisco Giants send Landen Roupp to the hill today, and he's compiled a 3.24 ERA so far across three appearances. Two of those starts have come on the road, where he’s posted an impressive 0.75 ERA.
Roupp has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings of work away from Oracle Park, and he’s faced several of the main guys in this Cincinnati Reds lineup. Across 14 at-bats, they’re hitting just .214 against Roupp.
While the Giants have never faced Reds starter Chase Burns, he’s given up five earned runs in 10 1/3 innings at home. He surrendered five earned runs in his last start.
San Francisco’s offense may be struggling, but this feels like an opportunity to do some damage off a young, inexperienced arm.

Although I do expect Roupp to give his team a good chance, we have to remember that San Francisco’s offense isn’t exactly electric right now. They’ve only scored eight runs in their last four games and rank 29th in runs scored.
They will do some damage against Burns, but I’m not expecting them to erupt. Cincy, meanwhile, is up against a guy who's clearly found success early on, and Roupp is throwing the ball with a lot more confidence on the road.
Cincy is also just 26th in runs scored. We’ll have a lower-scoring rubber match here.
