Before today’s game against Maryville, the head coach was recognized by district and school leaders, along with State Representative Dave Wright, for receiving the national honor. However, Mitchell said this award doesn’t represent her success, but Gibbs softball as a whole.
“I’m just really honored that out of all the coaches across the nation, that I was the one chosen,” said Mitchell. “It’s really not me, it’s really all the coaches and players that were before me that have kind of brought this moment to happen. I’m grateful and humbled at the same time.”
Mitchell took over the program in 1993 and said it’s a job she doesn’t take for granted.
