Dallas Glenn walked off with his second Pro Stock win this season and the 23rd of his career in the NHRA Southern Nationals, an event that Glenn described as weird.
“This is probably the weirdest elimination day of Pro Stock car I can remember,” said Glenn, who defeated Troy Coughlin Jr. in the final round with a 6.642 e.t., 211.39 mph. “I’ve seen bad rounds before, but never continuously. It’s a combination of the track not quite being what we’re used to, and the air being really good. It was not a good day to be a crew chief.”
Glenn, who qualified ninth, said he had to be on his toes in every round.
“It’s definitely where some of the experience with… between driving the car a bunch and testing and driving the burnout car and just kind of knowing how these transmissions work, how to get it back into gear when they shake,” Glenn said. “That was a major part of today (Sunday). Luck definitely played a role today.”
Glenn noted that if anyone had made a clean run against him, he would have been eliminated. He said he felt like every time he went to the starting line that loaded dice was being thrown. Glenn said that of the seven runs he made, only two were halfway decent.

“It’s just very odd to not have that much trust in your car to go down the track,” Glenn said. “Every single run we just physically could not take enough out of it, or we had too much out of it and the car just doesn’t want to act right. We had to search for gears in our rack of transmission gears that we’ve never had in a transmission before”
Glenn believes a lot of the problem was caused by Saturday’s rain. But he also says they should have tested at the track.
“I just feel like the tree’s a little bit looser here compared to the last couple races that we’ve been in,” Glenn said. “Then when you start taking gear and taking launch and doing everything you can to get it down (the track), it just makes it that much harder. If you look back, in the final I might have staged almost a full car width out of the groove. It was a pretty wild day.”

So, what’s the plan for the next race in Chicago? The car will be placed onto the scale pad, taken apart, put back together the way it was before they competed at South Georgia Motorsports Park, and “basically, pretend that this race didn’t happen.”
