Speaking in Tuesday’s press conference, Guardiola accepted it could be an important factor but encouraged his players not to allow it to derail them.
“Yes, absolutely but it cannot distract us,” he said when asked whether it could decide the destination of this season’s title.
“We would be imbalanced and then we would concede a lot of goals.
“I have a feeling that the opponents we face, we will not score a lot of goals. The rivals are really good. We will try to do what we can do to win the game.
“It’s the same as before Arsenal. People say what happens if you lose but no one asks what happens if you win. We will try to beat Burnley and the game will dictate what will happen.

“If you tell me I play with seven strikers and we score 20 goals then I will play seven strikers. It doesn’t work. Attack well and defend well.
“All the things we’ve been talking about for the last few months. If the momentum is there and fluid, we can maybe score a lot of goals.”
Pep Guardiola stated that Manchester City must not focus on goal difference as they approach the end of the season.
Manchester City is currently three points behind Arsenal in the Premier League standings.

This game comes just three days after a tense 2-1 victory over Arsenal.
While those three points kept hopes of a seventh Premier League title under Guardiola alive, there’s still a lot of work to be done if we are to claim the prize.
Guardiola says he’s used the time since the final whistle at the Etihad on Sunday to ensure his players remain focused on the task in hard.
“I know when you make an incredible moment in the past and then go away to a team that is not fighting for the title, it is so difficult,” he stated.
“We have done it before. The key is to be competitive in the last month. When that happens it’s a good season, I feel more relaxed.
“We have to do that to enjoy our job.
“It was a good advert for the Premier League, for us and for Arsenal. Our fans enjoyed it amazingly and we felt that and it cannot be better.”
The boss was also full of praise for the experienced members of his squad who have helped a younger side into this position.
“It shows what is required to create a group. How they hug each other in the game, how they support each other in bad moments, how they come back again,” said Guardiola.
“The captains talk a lot with the guys. It’s many things. The legacy for young players is how to deal with these situations.
“We could be fifth or sixth in the league. This is what you have to do. I said before, the lower teams have risen and made it so unbelievably difficult for the likes of Arsenal or City.
“I see Aston Villa and Sunderland and Brentford and how they have grown. Every time it is more difficult.”
