After a stretch where John Tortorella tinkered with the lineup and even benched key players for parts of the third period, a positive result would change how Game Six on Friday in Utah will feel.
Here is how the Golden Knights can put themes pressure on their opponents in a deadlocked series, and not the other way around.
Power moves
When asked before morning skate practice fine liked what he was seeing from the power play, Tortorella kept his response simple and blunt.
āNope,ā was the only word he had to say.
Despite the lack of elaboration, it is pretty clear that the power play is going to continue being worked on. Tortorella changed the units around in Game Four, and it sounds as though more changes are coming. Despite carrying an advantage on special teams heading into the series, the Golden Knights have struggled at points throughout the series to maximize it, so finally breaking through when the opportunities present themselves will be crucial in being able to get the series back in their control.
Home sweet home
For the Golden Knights, being able to hold such pivotal games at T-Mobile Arena is an advantage.
Stealing a game in Utah means the Golden Knights have recollected home ice, putting the pressure on the Mammoth to steal another one. Should the Golden Knights win tonight, it guarantees they will be able to eliminate the Mammoth in Salt Lake City on Friday, and Game Seven being in Las Vegas is a boost. However, the team is looking to cut out the drama and finish the series out as quickly as possible.
āWe earned home ice by winning the division, and now we got to take advantage of it,ā said forward Cole Smith.
Donāt get caught
The Golden Knights would prefer not to have to follow a similar script to Game Four.
The whirlwind that saw the Golden Knights and Mammoth trade offensive flurries created a game that was well out of control. It took a chaotic finish to finally put the Mammoth away, but Tortorella will hope that Game Five does not require a similar style.
āJust forget about what just happened and try to get back to our game. It's human nature,ā said Tortorella.
āSometimes you get put back on your heels a little bit. How quickly they get back into it is going to determine if you can find a way. This team has found its way as I came here. āInformation was given me they were trailing a lot this year, and found a way we just keep playing. We just try to push the players forward and try to get them back on to how they're supposed to play a game.ā
