Hawks stun Knicks 107-106 to even playoff series at 1-1

Rushville's golf team achieved a season-best score of 196 but lost to Lawrenceburg's Tigers, who scored 187. Ryder Flannery led the Lions with a second-place score of 43.
Rushville’s golf team traveled back to Lawrenceburg Friday to take on the host Tigers at Hidden Valley Golf Club. The Lions posted a season-best score of 196, but the Tigers were nine shots better with 187 to take the win.
Leading the way for the Lions was Ryder Flannery with a second-place overall score of 43. Tressler Owens set a new personal best score of 48. Landon Cain shot 51. Kyle Jacobs finished with 54 and Kanyon Sparks carded a personal best 55.
The junior varsity Lions had their first opportunity to play a full match of 5-on-5 and they came out victorious by the score of 195-246.
Rushville was led by Gavin Owen with a personal best 44. Eli Newhouse was next with a personal best 48. Ty Ellis shot a season low 50. Maverick Wolf saw his first action of the season and carded a 53. Madden Meek came in one shot back with 54.
Saturday, the Lions traveled to Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond to play in the Joe Morhing Invitational hosted by Richmond High School. The Lions took 10th place in the 13-team field by shooting 394 in their first 18-hole event of the season.
The Lions were led by Flannery with 90, placing him 13th individually. Owens was next for the Lions with a 96. Jacobs finished with a personal best 103. Cain shot 105 and Sparks shot 106.
Coach Paul Nicholls noted this was a good showing by the team considering this was the first 18-hole event for Owens, Cain and Sparks.
The Lions host a 3-way match with Connersville and East Central at Arbor Crossing Golf Course Friday.
Greensburg
Visiting Connersville held off the Pirates in both the varsity and junior varsity contests Friday at the Greensburg Country Club. The Spartans won the varsity match 167-181 and JV fell by one shot 209-210.
The Pirates were led by Logan Simpson with 40. Luke Schwering and Harry Yu both finished with 46. Reece Chapman finished a shot back with 47.
Logan Fisse was another shot back with 48. Landon Huff carded 53 followed by Henry Schwering 54, Jack Noah 54, Ethan Koors 56 and Carson Kendall 56.
Batesville
Center Grove was the host for the 19-team field Steve McClure Memorial Golf Tournament. The event was hosted at Southern Dunes Golf Course and Carmel Blue came out on top with a team score of 311.
Batesville finished eighth overall with a 342.
Landon Raver led the Bulldogs with 81. Ian Hixson was a shot back with 82 and Jon Moody was just one more shot back with 83. Cooper Phebus finished with 96 and Caleb Laker had a 98.
Other teams scored included Speedway 324, Eastbrook 324, Fishers 332, Carmel White 333, Guerin Catholic 339, Martinsville 342, Franklin 343, New Castle 345, Brebeuf 347, Shenandoah 349, Decatur Central 355, Center Grove Black 358, Perry Meridian 364, Frankton 373, Shelbyville 377, Center Grove Grey 386 and Trinity Lutheran 408.
Batesville’s junior varsity squad finished 10th out of 14 teams in the Jennings County Invitational at St. Anne’s Golf Course.

Seymour won the team title with 328. Madison was second with 331 followed by Jennings County White 335, Providence 336, New Albany 340, Borden 341, Switzerland County 346, Jennings County Blue 366, Southwestern Hanover 386, Batesville 392, Rising Sun 398, Columbus East 404, Austin 415 and Milan 446.
Individual scores for the Bulldogs included Jax Negovetich 87, Beckett Jones 100, Cade Rienschield 101 and Kaiden Eckstein 104.
