Golfer Jon Rahm Hits Elderly PGA Tour Volunteer in Face with Divot After He Swings Club in Frustration

"Unfortunately it hit him in the shoulder and then the face," Rahm added. "Which, I couldn't feel any worse."

In the footage, Rahm immediately approached the volunteer and appeared to apologize profusely. Though he rubbed the side of his face a few times as if in a bit of pain, the volunteer seemed to take the whole thing lightly, smiling as Rahm extended his apology.

"I need to somehow track him down to give him a present because that's inexcusable and for something that could be completely avoidable," Rahm said afterwards. "Whether it was my intention or not, it was just not good."

After the incident, which took place at the 7th hole, Rahm's tournament began looking up. He holed out from 98 yards on the par-4 second — his very first eagle in a PGA Championship, per ESPN and Golf.

"What can I say? It was a phenomenal shot, [a] really good wedge shot," Rahm said, per both outlets. "I came off that first green kicking myself because it was a wrong choice of shot for such a good drive. [It was] 105 yards away downwind; it was the wrong shot choice."

"Go to the next hole, and I have a very similar number, at least I have to play it the same number into the wind. Obviously, a lot more committed with the right decision, and hit a great shot. Obviously, the luck of seeing it go in, right?"
