The PGA of America is going back to a loyal soldier to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team Sept. 17-19, 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland.
Jacksonville resident Jim Furyk will be named to guide the U.S. team, according to a report on April 24 in Golfweek, a USA Today Co., affiliate. Furyk captained the team in France in 2018, where it lost to Europe 17.5-10.5. He has been a vice-captain four times, in 2016, 2021, 2023 and 2025, and led the U.S. Presidents Cup to victory in 2024 in Montreal.

Attempts to reach Furyk for comment were unsuccessful.
Tiger Woods was considered the front-runner for the 2027 captaincy but is currently in rehabilitation after a car accident and subsequent charges for DUI in March.
As a player, Furyk competed in nine Ryder Cups in a row from 1997 to 2014. He won 17 PGA Tour events, highlighted by the 2003 U.S. Open.
The PGA issued a statement to Golfweek that said, "We will share details regarding the Ryder Cup Captain announcement as soon as we can.”
If Furyk is the selection, he may have to work with European captain Luke Donald to cool emotions that boiled over into the extreme last year at Bethpage State Park, when U.S. fans were verbally abusive to European players and their wives, with one throwing a can of beer at American-born wife Erica Stoll.
