Grading the Chiefs’ pick of Cyrus Allen at No. 175 in the NFL Draft

Allen played for three schools during his time in college, but it was his last stop as a Cincinnati Bearcat that he had his most impactful season. Allen scored a whopping 13 touchdowns and averaged 13.2 yards per catch in 2025 for Cincinnati. A big-play threat, Allen played primarily out of the slot in college, where he used superior route-running and good twitch to create big plays. With only one drop during his final college season, he showed he has the sure hands needed to play in the NFL. Allen joins a crowded wide receiver room for Kansas City, but with time, he could develop into a big-play threat. He may compete for the chance to be the Chiefs’ return man early in the season as well. **Grade:** A

The Chiefs needed receiver help, and got that in Allen. Veach decided to take the reliable, less explosive Allen over his boom or bust work in progress teammate Jeff Caldwell. Allen is undersized and not the fastest guy, only running a 4.49 40-yard dash, but he has plus agility and is sudden in and out of his breaks and is a nice route runner. What Chiefs fans will like the most about him is that he is sure-handed and doesn’t have bad drops. I wouldn’t expect Allen to be anything more than a back-of-the-roster rotation slot receiver, but there is room on this team for a guy who fulfills his role. **Grade:** B
