The Giants selected Colton Hood at No. 37 and traded back into the third round at No. 74 during the 2026 NFL Draft. The team's cornerback position was a significant focus due to previous player departures and underperformance.
The Giants made two selections on Friday, selecting with the No. 37 pick and then trading back into the third round at No. 74 in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Let's break down how Big Blue did on Day 2...
Corner was less discussed, but still a major need for the Giants entering the NFL Draft. Cor'Dale Flott left in free agency for the Titans. Deonte Banks has been a massive disappointment. Paulson Adebo, last year's big-money free agent, did not live up to the hype in his first season with the Giants.
Adebo's ProFootballFocus grade: 58.4. Banks' was an abysmal 42.4.
Hood was among the draft's risers. It's somewhat surprising he was there in the second round. The Giants could have addressed the interior of their defensive line, but Kayden McDonald went one pick before. In Hood, the Giants get a physical, press-man guy with good ball skills.
The Giants needed a receiver. They were hoping to come away with Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson in the first round, but when both went early (Tate to the Titans fourth; Tyson to the Saints eighth), they pivoted.
They worked to fill other needs and did, then in the third, saw an opportunity to be aggressive and go up and get a pass catcher.
The Giants selected Colton Hood with the No. 37 pick and traded back into the third round at No. 74.
The Giants had a major need for a cornerback, especially after Cor'Dale Flott left for the Titans and Deonte Banks' disappointing performance.
Deonte Banks had a poor performance with a ProFootballFocus grade of 42.4, contributing to the Giants' need for a cornerback.

Fields is big (6-4), physical, contested catch maestro. His catch radius is different than what New York has in the room now. He was particularly impressive at the Senior Bowl, where general manager Joe Schoen said scouts told him he was the "best" receiver there.
The one concern here is what the Giants had to give up to go get him. No. 104 and 145 are fine; it's the 2027 fourth-round pick that's noteworthy. That class is supposed to be superb. Most teams are taking all picks in that class off the table when it comes to trades.
For the Giants to give one of those selections up ... it's not ideal.
