The Grovetown baseball team is aiming for its first region title in program history as they enter the postseason. With a record-breaking 21 wins this season, they could also host their first home playoff game with a victory over Heritage.
GROVETOWN, GA (WJBF)- Say goodbye to the spring regular season, and hello postseason. The Grovetown baseball teamās historic year continues, as they look to clinch the 6A region on Thursday.
The Warriors are seeking their first region title in program history, but theyāve continued to shatter records this season. Their 21 wins on the year is the most in school history, and with a win Thursday night against Heritage, they could host their first ever home playoff game.
Some players have spent their entire career on Varsity, are grateful to keep their season going.
āI think our mindset has changed, and I think thatās been a big part of it,ā said outfielder Noah Riggs.
āI think all the other years, weāve hoped to win games, and this year we expect to win games, and we trust our abilities a lot more than in yearās past.ā
āI think it gives us a lot of confidence, because they say baseball is 90 percent mental. If you expect to lose, you wonāt do much, thatās 90 percent of your game down the drain,ā said outfielder Jowell Jackson.
āI think the leadership is definitely there. Us seniors have tried to take accountability and hold everybody accountable. Weāve done our best to make sure everybody succeeds, and weāre happy for each other instead of talking down on people,ā said shortstop Boston Rowan.
The first game of their doubleheader begins at 4:30 p.m. at Grovetown High School.
