Eyeing a changeup sailing to the inside of the plate, Cleveland Guardians icon Jose Ramirez pulled the 82-mph pitch down the left-field line, clearing the fence at Truist Park, earning another franchise record.
Ramirez's home run off Atlanta Braves starter Martin Perez marked the 29th different MLB team the 13-year veteran connected against. No other slugger in the organization has at least one homer against every other squad.
“Proud of myself,” Ramírez said, as reported by MLB.com. “Thank God for that, but I'm really proud of that accomplishment."
Breaking club records continues to be a weekly experience.
Ramirez on Monday appeared in his franchise-best 1,620th career game, snapping the mark Terry Turner held for nearly 108 years.
Will the run of organizational records continue to mask Ramirez's slow start?
Prior to launching Saturday's 403-foot solo shot, Ramirez entered the 6-0 victory with just two hits and one RBI during his past 21 at-bats. Through 14 games, he was batting .151 with one homer and six RBIs.
Last season, leading the Guardians' September charge to capture the AL Central title, Rameriz batted .283, his highest mark since 2020. He had 69 combined homers over the past two seasons.
Is the 33-year-old slugger's pull power beginning to diminish? Perez would disagree.
Ramirez's 287 career home runs, all with the Guardians' franchise, rank second behind Jim Thome's all-time best 337.
Here are the top-four teams Rameriz has clubbed the most homers against:
Ramirez clubbed his first homer as a 21-year-old infielder, connecting off New York Yankees' Brandon McCarthy at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 9, 2014.
