Jose Ramirez stands in the rarest of company with how he's begun the 2026 MLB season.

To find anyone who has done quite what the Cleveland Guardians superstar is doing, you have to go back to 1907 and visit one of the greatest ballplayers ever, Honus Wagner.

Ramirez and Wagner -- in one regard, two of a kind in baseball history.

It's happened because of Ramirez's extra-base hits and stolen bases at his age.

Ramirez has eight extra-base hits and eight stolen bases through Cleveland's first 20 games.

The only other player to do that aged 33-or-older in MLB history was Wagner in 1907:

Ramirez is doing this despite a slightly slow start that has his average only at .224 entering Friday's action.  But he has four doubles and four homers, and he's 8-for-8 stealing bases.

Wagner actually had 13 steals already in that 1907 season, so he was slightly ahead of Ramirez's pace, but it's remarkable regardless.

Those 1907 Pirates went on to finish second in the National League in the days when just one team won a pennant to make the World Series.

Wagner finished that year hitting .350 with 38 doubles, 14 triples, six home runs and 61 steals. Not a bad year.

Ramirez is well on his way to yet another special season of his own.
