Pep Guardiola humorously commented on missing the thrilling PSG vs. Bayern Munich match, which ended 5-4 in favor of PSG. Instead, he attended a lower-league game featuring Stockport County.
Guardiola jokes about ‘disaster’ PSG and Bayern Munich game
Pep Guardiola joked about missing the nine-goal thriller between PSG and Bayern Munich after choosing to watch Stockport County in person on Tuesday night.
Paris beat Bayern 5-4 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, a game that will go down as one of the very best in the competition’s history.
Rather than watch that on television, however, Guardiola was in attendance at Edgeley Park to see Port Vale pull off a shock 2-1 win over The Hatters.
Speaking with tongue firmly in cheek ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Everton on Monday, Guardiola told the assembled media that he expected a “disaster game” between the two European giants.
“The day before, I saw the calendar and saw PSG and Bayern Munich and thought, ‘bah, what a disaster game.’ Managers are not good, Luis [Enrique] and Vini [Vincent Kompany],” he said.
“I’m in love with English football, and I decided to go to Stockport. Next season, when Bayern Munich play my old team, I will be in front of the sofa.”
There has been much discussion about PSG and Bayern Munich playing the game in the ‘right way’ after putting on such a stunning show of entertaining football, but Guardiola reminded reporters that there are many ways to approach the sport.
“That’s nice. It’s what football is all about. You and I are not the same,” he added.
“Football is like this [gestures widely]; everyone has their own style. It was a good game. versus was another good game too. Of course, when you score nine goals in a semi-final, it’s fantastic. Football has to be accepted in different ways.”
The PSG vs. Bayern Munich game ended with a score of 5-4 in favor of PSG.
Guardiola chose to attend a lower-league match between Stockport County and Port Vale instead of watching the Champions League game.
Guardiola joked about the match being a 'disaster' for him to miss, highlighting its thrilling nature.
