

Pottsville defeated North Schuylkill 9-1 on senior night, spoiling the celebration. The Crimson Tide are likely to secure the No. 3 seed in the Schuylkill League playoffs.
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS â Pottsville spoiled North Schuylkillâs senior night with a 9-1 Division I clobbering on Monday night.
North Schuylkill (12-6, 7-5) honored seniors Aiden Oliveri, Aaron Brayford, Landen Smith, Hunter Rogers, Cody Osenbach and Shane Butler in a pre-game ceremony.
The Crimson Tide (12-5, 7-3) are almost sure lock for the No. 3 seed in the Schuylkill League playoffs and rank third in the Division I standings behind Blue Mountain and Tri-Valley.
âWeâre a long way away from securing a league playoff spot and we have to win at least one more game,â Pottsville coach Michael Welsh said. âTo come up here and play a solid game it really speaks to the character of our kids as well because it wasnât easy to go through this team.â

Dominic Rynard put on a clinic for the Crimson Tide (12-5, 7-3) as he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts while also coming through with an RBI groundball single for the 3-1 lead in the fifth.
âIt will really give us an advantage coming to league and district playoffs especially playing three good teams this week,â Rynard said. âIt will really get us in that mentality that weâll be able to compete.â
Andrew Allen led the way for Pottsville at the plate with three hits and two RBIâs while the Crimson Tide lineup worked nine walks against four North Schuylkill pitchers.
We knew this was going to be an absolute grind and for us to have any opportunity we had to get this win and we knew how difficult it would be,â Welsh said.
The teams traded scoreless first innings before the Crimson Tide struck in the top of the second, beginning with Max Clews and Harrison Ciavarella walks. Allen stepped up to the plate and delivered an RBI fielders choice bunt back to the pitcher to score Clews for the 1-0 lead.

âI was proud of our guys for getting their bunts down and we were able to steal some bases early and we were willing to do whatever we could to get a runner across,â Welsh said. âThe end of the game doesnât indicate how tight this game was.â
North Schuylkill struck for their only score in the bottom of the second inning, beginning with a Landen Smith triple to left field before Hubler grounded out to second base to score Smith for the 2-1 difference.
Rynard pitched strong into the fourth inning when he kept North Schuylkillâs lineup off balance with two of his eight strikeouts. He also struck out two in the fifth and one more in the sixth inning.
Pottsville won the game against North Schuylkill with a score of 9-1.
The seniors honored were Aiden Oliveri, Aaron Brayford, Landen Smith, Hunter Rogers, Cody Osenbach, and Shane Butler.
Pottsville is currently ranked third in the Division I standings and is almost assured of the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.
Pottsville needs to win at least one more game to secure a league playoff spot.

âHe (Rynard) really found his breaking ball mid game and he was able to lean on that and his fastball,â Welsh said. âWhen heâs throwing two pitches for strikes heâs really tough to hit.â
Rynard also delivered at the plate in the top of the fifth when he singled into center field to score Trout for the 3-1 lead. Clews then doubled into center field to score Rynard for the 4-1 lead.
âThatâs our job at the top of the lineup and we have two really good guys who can get on base and score,â Rynard said. âItâs great to get hot before the postseason especially if we can carry it into those games.â
The Crimson Tide laid it all out at the plate in the top of the seventh, beginning with a Brody Hess bases loaded walk for the 5-1 lead. Ciavarella and Allen also walked with the bases loaded for the 7-1 lead.
Christian Alvarez ended the scoring with a two-run line drive single into right field to score Ciavarella and Allen for the 9-1 lead.
Clews closed it out on the mound for Pottsville, striking out all three outs he recorded after an inning opening walk to hang on for the 9-1 lead.
Pottsville hosts Blue Mountain on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and North Schuylkill travels to Danville on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
