Hapless Tigers Drop Another One In Kansas City
I’m almost at a loss for words. It’s truly shocking just how awful they look right now. Michael Wacha is a fine pitcher; in fact, he said he's had a bit of a career resurgence over the last several seasons. I gotta give him a lot of credit because he was one of those guys that really seemed like he was going through it for a while after starting his career off hot. He’s a very well-respected veteran presence, but he’s not a Cy Young caliber guy, except for when he pitches against Detroit.
I’m not going to act like the injuries don’t have something to do with this. They obviously do. But based on what I’m watching, I get the impression that the injuries are affecting this team more from a morale standpoint than they are from a physical standpoint. Pitching-wise, they’re completely depleted. I don’t like to let major league players off the hook, but it’s undeniable that AJ Hinch has had to improvise. But that doesn’t tell the full story. Nothing is going right. They’re not fielding the ball properly. They’re not driving guys in when they’re in scoring position. It’s just ugly baseball that we’re seeing right now from this team. They have completely unraveled since they discovered the Skubal news on Tuesday. I’m still going to maintain the belief that they’re not incapable of playing their way out of this, but right now, they look completely lost. You get the impression that they have no faith in what they’re doing.
I have great news, folks. It’s going to be another bullpen day for the Tigers tomorrow. Maybe it’s Ben the request of Jason Bennett that Detroit get a lot of Sunday night games in the early part of this season, but Detroit will be playing in their third Sunday night baseball game on Peacock this season, tomorrow night, as they try to avoid the sweep against the Royals. As I said, it will be a bullpen day for the Tigers. As of the time at which I’m writing this, there’s been no indication of who the bulk guy is going to be. Noah Cameron will be pitching for the Royals.
