Newcastle United are facing growing pressure over Anthony Gordon’s future as Bayern Munich have stepped up their interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
The winger has become a key figure at St James’ Park, but ongoing speculation around potential sales has placed his situation at the centre of the club’s planning. Newcastle are understood to be open to offers at the right price, with financial considerations likely to influence any decision.
Bayern’s pursuit has developed in recent weeks, with the German club identifying Gordon as a versatile attacking option. Their strategy appears focused not only on agreeing a fee with Newcastle, but also on securing the player’s commitment early in the process.
BILD’s Christian Falk reported that Harry Kane could play a role in Bayern’s approach, given his influence within the England setup.
“It is TRUE: Anthony Gordon is highly-rated on Bayern’s shortlist. Now, there will be talks about money, so it’s very concrete!” Faulk wrote. “Gordon signalled that he could make a move to the Bundesliga, so I think perhaps this is partly Harry Kane’s doing. Normally, English national players rarely come to the German top-flight. That all said, the transfer fee Newcastle end up demanding for the winger could harm Bayern’s hopes of signing Anthony Gordon. There were many rumours of an €80m [£69.3m] fee. The Times now suggest it’s actually closer to €75m [£65m]. I think this would be too expensive for Bayern Munich.
“Of course, there’s always the possibility that if Anthony Gordon pushes for a move to Bayern and Bayern only, then perhaps Newcastle could be encouraged to lower the asking price. As things stand, Bayern Munich are in a good place with , Harry Kane and , and with behind them. These are all positions Gordon can play, although he would be another option, so spending too much money would be difficult for FC Bayern.”
According to Falk, Bayern plans to reach an agreement in advance with the player before approaching Newcastle.
However, Newcastle’s valuation remains a significant obstacle, and that might be why the German giants want the player to give them the green light, then force his way out of Tyneside, rather than having to deal with the Magpies board.
According to the latest , Newcastle are seeking around £75million, a figure Bayern are currently reluctant to meet by around £15 million.
Gordon didn’t feature for Newcastle in their latest defeat, this time to , over the weekend. Eddie Howe, however, said before the game that his absence was not related to any potential transfer out of St. James’ Park.
“Anthony Gordon is injured, 100 per cent,” Howe said. “So for me that’s a non-question.”
