From scoring inside and outside to handling the ball and rebounding,, Kaitlyn Johnson did many things to factor into the success for the Haslett girls basketball team.
And Johnson did those things things at a high level.
Johnson finished just shy of averaging a double-double while helping the Vikings capture CAAC Red and district championships this winter. That success has led to the senior forward and Saginaw Valley State signee being named Michigan Sports Writers first team all-state in Division 2.
Johnson was one of four players from Greater Lansing recognized as all-state and joined by teammate Christina Dixon, Owosso's Danica Dwyer and Portland's Lilly Thelen as all-state selections. All four earned Michigan Sports Writers all-state recognition last season.
Johnson averaged 14.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks while helping Haslett to a 22-3 mark. She had 12 double-doubles and shot 44.8% from behind the 3-point arc.
Dwyer was a second team all-state selection after averaging 21.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.1 steals and 3.6 assists per game. The senior guard set a school record with 496 points this season and set the single-game school record with 42 points.
Portland's Lilly Thelen scores against Eaton Rapids during the third quarter on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at Portland High School.
Dixon and Thelen were each named honorable mention all-state. Dixon, a Grand Valley signee, was Haslett's leading scorer at 14.3 points per game. She surpassed 1,000 career points this winter. Dixon also averaged 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.1 assists.
Thelen, who is signed with Lake Superior State, also surpassed 1,000 career points this season. She averaged 17.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.7 steals and made 51 3-pointers this winter while helping the Raiders to a 21-5 record that included CAAC White and district titles. Thelen set school records for assists in a season (102) and career (298) and made 3s in a season (51).
Flint Powers' Kendyl Smith was named the Division 2 player of the year, while Goodrich's Jason Gray was voted coach of the year.
