Texas A&M's head coach Mike Elko addressed the challenging 2026 schedule, which includes tough road games against LSU, Missouri, Alabama, South Carolina, and Oklahoma. He remains focused on recruiting for the 2027 class while preparing the 2026 roster for summer workouts.
Texas A&M's 2026 spring season is coming to an end, as the annual Maroon & White Spring Game on Saturday won't answer any questions, but for the Aggie fans in the area, knowing that the Aggie baseball team is on the road vs. LSU this weekend means an afternoon of A&M football, a win is guaranteed when the team is playing itself, so that's something!
Until late July, third-year head coach Mike Elko will be a busy man both on and off campus, focused on the 2027 recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 1 (Rivals) nationally, while the 2026 roster will continue to work out this summer before fall camp rolls around in early August.
Still, the New Jersey native always has time to sit down with the media, especially with "The Hardline" hosts, the afternoon drivetime show on sports station 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas-Fort Worth. For nearly 20 minutes, Elko and hosts Bob Sturm, Corby Davidson, and Dave Lane discussed a variety of topics, including Texas A&M's tough 2026 schedule, which features road games against LSU, Missouri, Alabama, South Carolina, and Oklahoma.
While Elko jokingly chided the hosts for asking the question five to six months before most of these games will be played, the narrative this time last season was that the Aggies would struggle on the road vs. Notre Dame, LSU, and Missouri, all resulting in wins, while the lone road loss to Texas was by far one of the worst team performances of the season.
"Here's what I want to do. I want to record this conversation so that next year, in November, when you guys are talking about how easy my schedule is, I want to be able to come back to it. Because I was having this same conversation last year, and people were saying, 'How are you ever going to go to LSU and go to Notre Dame and go to Missouri,' and then I got into the season, and all anyone was talking about was how I wasn't playing anyone."
It's nearly impossible to forecast how all 16 SEC teams will perform next fall, and while the Texas Longhorns return quarterback Arch Manning, combined with transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman, talent on paper will always produce the proverbial "clicks," but until every team hits the field, any discussion surrounding who the "best team" is is simply hearsay.
