Yagya Bhatia was a BSc student with a cricket bat in one hand and a guitar in the other. His social media pages paint the picture of a young man who had poured himself into the sport.
The two cousins had been at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday to watch Delhi Capitals take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After the match ended, they set off toward their home in Ashok Nagar in west Delhi on Yagya's motorbike.
Abhav was on the phone with his father, Sumit Bhatia, as they rode. Sumit heard a sudden, sharp noise, and then nothing. He called back repeatedly, but no one answered.
Eventually, a stranger picked up and told him that his son and nephew had been in a serious accident on Ashoka Road, where their bike had collided with a truck. The truck did not stop as it fled from the spot. Delhi Police have since traced and seized the vehicle, but the driver remains at large, and a search is underway.
The Bhatias run a dry fruits business and have lived in Ashok Nagar for years. Yagya's relatives have confirmed that he was a regular in his college cricket setup and that he dreamt of making it big in the sport.
