Henry Cejudo criticizes Jiri Prochazka for claiming he showed mercy to Carlos Ulberg during their fight at UFC 327. Cejudo argues that fighters should not hold back and must finish the job when they have the opportunity.
Henry Cejudo doesn't see Jiri Prochazka having mercy on Carlos Ulberg as a valid excuse.
Prochazka (32-6-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) claimed he pulled back after Ulberg (14-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) hurt his knee in Round 1 of their vacant light heavyweight title fight in Saturday's UFC 327 main event at Kaseya Center in Miami. It wound up costing him, as he was knocked out just moments later by a left hook.
Cejudo says Prochazka can't show mercy in a situation like this.
"I think the biggest lesson learned here for Jiri, I mean if he's 'The Last Samurai,' he's got to finish the job," Cejudo said on his "Pound 4 Pound" podcast with Kamaru Usman. "That's what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to hurt somebody. It's your kick that did that damage. Particularly now that Jiri's about to have a kid, you should not have mercy on nobody.
"Whose parents do you think are crying? You either want your parents to cry or their parents to cry. I think that's something he needs to deep down see if he really wants to keep it 100 in fighting. I think the mercy, or whatever that was, I think sometimes those are just excuses. For Ulberg, he did the right thing. He went for broke."
Prochazka called for a rematch and thinks it was his fight to win had he not given Ulberg the opportunity.
