The spring and summer seasons are always a busy time for running and races in Northern Colorado.
As usual, there are many options for the true road warriors looking to push themselves on trail runs, half marathons and ultra-marathons.
But maybe you're looking for something on the lighter side, a race for beginners to intermediate runners. A chiller race that you can bring the family to, with the kids and perhaps even the pups.
Fort Collins has a handful of 5Ks and fun runs this spring and summer that may be the perfect fit. Here are some options:
Healing Warriors 5K Fun Run
- When: Sunday, May 17
- Race(s): 5K only (walking is an option)
- Course: The route features two laps around Spring Canyon Park, with the start and finish lines just south of the creekside pavilions on the west side of the park. The course does not stray from the Spring Canyon Park Trail path, so there is little elevation change on this course.

Fire Hydrant 5K
- When: Saturday, May 30
- Races: 5K competitive, 5K fun, 5K walk
- Course: This is a very similar route to the Healing Warriors course above. All races start at the creekside shelter and wind through Spring Canyon Park, briefly joining the Spring Creek Trail before looping back toward the park and the finish near the same creekside pavilions on the northwest side. This is a relatively flat course and considered an approachable race for all levels of runners.

Step Up for Women and Recovery 5K (Fort Collins)

- Course: The route primarily consists of the paths running through Fossil Creek Park in south Fort Collins, originating from the Fossil Creek Lake Pavillion No. 2 on the north side of Portner Reservoir. This course features little significant elevation change in either direction.

FireKracker 5K
- **When:**Saturday, July 4
- Races: Citizens 5K run/walk, elite 5K, kids 1-mile
- **Course:**The route for all three events runs entirely in and around City Park, with the courses winding around Sheldon Lake as the focal point. The 5K course has runners circling the park and going down Mountain Ave, Laporte Ave, Taft Hill Road and Mulberry St before finishing on City Park Drive. The elite course loops on the path around Sheldon Lake.

Odell Brewing 5K

- Course: The race (hosted by Colorado Brewery Running Series) starts and ends at Odell Brewing Company in Fort Collins. There are multiple waves available, and the route is an open course (no closed roads) and each route is created to "show off the surrounding neighborhood. The course will be marked with arrows and volunteers to help you know where to go."
