Hereās what The Commercial Appeal has gathered about the Grizzliesā early draft activity:
Nate Ament, forward, Tennessee
Cam Boozer, forward, Duke
Jayden Quaintance, center, Kentucky
AJ Dybantsa, forward, BYU
Yaxel Lendeborg, forward, Michigan
Darryn Peterson, guard/wing, Kansas
Chris Cenac Jr., center, Houston
Amari Allen, forward, Alabama
Darius Acuff Jr., guard, Arkansas
Labaron Philon, guard, Alabama
Allen Graves, wing, Santa Clara
Members of the Grizzlies front office spent much of May 12 conducting interviews with prospects. Several players said conversations with NBA teams have largely centered on life away from basketball, with organizations aiming to better understand them as people beyond their on-court skill sets.
With three premium picks, Memphis has already launched an extensive evaluation process that does not appear overly focused on positional needs. Point guards, wings and big men projected throughout the top 35 have all drawn interest from the Grizzlies.
Allen said he has already completed a workout with Memphis. Allen is projected as a late first-round or early second-round prospect.
Joshua Jefferson, forward, Iowa State
Meleek Thomas, guard/wing, Arkansas
Isaiah Evans, wing, Duke
Hannes Steinbach, forward/center, Washington
Caleb Wilson, forward, North Carolina
Wilson and Jefferson both said they expect to interview with Memphis.
Itās also worth noting that a lack of early contact does not necessarily signal a lack of interest. Zach Edey, for example, did not meet with the Grizzlies before Memphis selected the center from Purdue with No. 9 pick in 2024.
Peterson views himself as a point guard in the NBA. He explained that his lone season at Kansas featured more off-ball responsibilities than he is accustomed to, partly because of cramping and injury issues.
The Grizzlies still have Ja Morant, though Memphis is widely expected to explore trading the two-time All-Star. If Peterson is available at No. 3, he could emerge as a long-term option in the backcourt.
āItāll be easy for me to make plays for all my teammates with all the gravity I think I might get at the next level,ā Peterson said.
Boozer emphasized his feel for the game, competitiveness and desire to win when discussing his NBA projection. With Memphis holding the No. 3 pick, Boozer is one of the prospects most frequently linked to the Grizzlies in mock draft.
The 6-foot-9 power forward could potentially form an intriguing frontcourt alongside the 7-4 Edey. Boozer said he believes his game is at its best when paired with a true big man, pointing to his success alongside Duke center Patrick Ngongba.
āFor me, I think playing with a big next to me will maximize my game the most for sure,ā Boozer said.
