Ollie Watkins is hoping his recent form for Aston Villa can earn him a place in England's World Cup squad.
Watkins was one of the most notable omissions from March's squad with the striker overlooked after an underwhelming club campaign.
The 30-year-old has found his form in recent weeks and was on target during Aston Villa's 2-2 draw at Burnley in thePremier League on Sunday.
Watkins now has seven goals and two assists in his last nine appearances across all competitions.
Thomas Tuchel is due to name his provisional squad for the2026 World Cup later this month and Watkins, who has scored six goals in 20 caps for England, is hoping he has done enough.
"I'm just trying to do the best I can," he said toMatch of the Day.
"Every striker wants to score so I'm trying to do that and create. We've got massive games coming up, so time to focus on that."
Unai Emery heaped praise on the forward at full-time. He called Watkins a 'fighter' and said the club's leading scorer is being rewarded for his work ethic.

"Three months ago he was a little down but we always have conversations about being consistent and working for the team every match. Now he is getting the numbers."
