His last appearance for the Three Lions came during their Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. He had been injured upon his arrival at the tournament, but was cleared to play from the quarter-finals onwards.
Maguire missed the tournament entirely due to injury, although he did play key roles at the last two World Cups and Euro 2020, so he will be chomping at the bit to get back on the biggest stage next month.
When naming the 33-year-old as a contender for the ācomebackā Player of the Season on Stick to Football, Wright said to the panel of Maguireās World Cup hopes: āHeās going, isnāt he? Heās definitely going.ā

Back in March, after he had just made his first appearance in 18 months, Tuchel told reporters that he didnāt view Maguire as one of his first-choice centre-halves.
āI see other players Iād like to start for us. I see other players ahead with a different profile. I see Ezri Konsa ahead, I see Marc Guehi ahead. Itās no secret. I see Trevoh Chalobah on the level of mobility was slightly ahead of him,ā said the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain coach.
That being said, if he witnessed Guehiās catastrophic mishap in Manchester Cityās draw with Everton last week, which could well have cost the Blues the title, Tuchel might be rethinking whether Guehi is dependable enough to try to lead England to glory.
