High school boys soccer: Friday’s 3A/2A quarterfinal recap

Jace Rodriguez scored three goals and provided two assists to lead No. 1 seed Ogden in a decisive 7-0 victory over No. 9 seed Manti in the 3A state tournament quarterfinals. Ogden jumped to an early lead with three first-half goals and continued their dominance in the second half, adding four more. Harry Hoskins contributed with two goals, while Parley Gladwell and Zeke Snow each added one. Xavier Peregrina recorded the shutout for Ogden.

2A Playoffs

Rowland Hall 8, St. Joseph 5

Miles Li’s impressive four-goal performance led No. 3 seed Rowland Hall to an 8-5 victory over No. 6 seed St. Joseph in the 2A state tournament quarterfinals. The Winged Lions jumped to an early lead with five goals in the first half, thanks to contributions from Fran Fierro, who scored twice, and Elisha Hyman. Rowland Hall maintained their advantage in the second half to secure their spot in the semifinals.

Waterford 2, South Summit 0

Second-seeded Waterford advanced to the 2A state tournament semifinals with a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over seventh-seeded South Summit. Hunter Marshall and Xavi Faraji each found the back of the net for the Ravens. Waterford controlled the match, scoring once in each half to secure the shutout.

Maeser Prep 7, Gunnison Valley 1

Denzel Sono-Koree scored twice as No. 1 seed Maeser Prep defeated No. 8 Gunnison Valley 7-1 in the 2A state tournament quarterfinals. The Lions built a commanding 2-1 lead in the first half before netting five additional goals in the second half. Matty Simmons, Joe Memmott, Noah Johnson, Donnel Sono-Koree, and Gavin Dayton also found the back of the net for Maeser Prep. Gunnison Valley’s lone goal came in the first half.

American Heritage 6, Millard 1

Alex Bay scored a hat trick to lead No. 4 American Heritage to a 6-1 victory over No. 5 Millard in the 2A state tournament quarterfinals. The Patriots took an early lead with three goals in the first half, including one from Bay. Millard’s sole goal was scored in the first half, but American Heritage secured the win with three additional goals in the second half.
